28 May

Today, we celebrate the day that God sent us the Holy Spirit

Jesus had ascended into heaven and made some promises about Something to come
Before we talk about that, let’s look at some of the things said about the Holy Spirit by Jesus
John 14:26
In verse 16-17, Jesus begins talking about the Holy Spirit as the Helper.  In verse 26, He says that the Helper will also be a teacher and a guide.
This is a means of God living in us.  We are given the Holy Spirit as a means of helping us to navigate this world.
2 Timothy 1:7 gives us an idea that we are given even more.  We are not given a spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind.  That means that we don’t go through this world in fear…but in this world with a power like no other.
This power is what brings me to Acts.
First, let’s look at Acts 1:8.  Jesus is telling us that we will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes upon us…power to do His work!
Acts 2:1-8 – this shows the POWER of the Holy Spirit as He fell on the people.
What I want you to hear from this scripture is that they were given the POWER to speak the Word of God so that everybody heard the message.  Everyone was able to hear the message in their language and the Word was spread as a result.  The Power was given, not for edification of the people, but for advancement of the Gospel
So, let’s look at just a few of the things that the Holy Spirit does:
1 – Helper – give us aid to live for Him and do the right things

2 – Teacher – so that we might know truth and be able to learn what is truth

3 – Guide – Helps us to navigate this sinful world as a light shining bright for Him

4 – Infuses us with POWER – not so that we look good or sound good, but so that God is praised and the people clearly hear the message of Jesus Christ no matter where we go

5 – Empowers us to be WITNESSES – so that we can tell others what it means to follow Him

What do you not have?  It could be because you are not tapping into the power that is living right inside of you…as a gift from God!

Go…and Do…with the POWER and DIRECTION of the Holy Spirit!
