Standing on Something

18 May

This past Sunday, we looked at Daniel 3:8-18.  A very familiar story for those of us who grew up in the church, and quite a powerful story at that.  Three Jews working for the King aren’t willing to bow to a golden image set up by the King.  They are instructed to and their life depends on it.  They aren’t going to compromise.  They will not bow.  Even when given a second chance, they still didn’t back down.  They even tell the King that the God they serve can rescue them – but even if He doesn’t, they STILL aren’t going to bow down.  And, well, you know the rest of the story – if not, take time to read it…it is awesome!
Many people over the years have risked their lives while standing up for what they believed.  Some have been saved from death while standing…some have lost their life while refusing to back down from what they know to be so true…Some people have even died for false gods or religions.
I find it interesting that Christians have trouble standing for what we believe.  I think it is because many don’t really know what they believe.  We live in a world that constantly calls for compromise.  We live in a world where we are taught to believe there are no absolute truths.  I am saying that isn’t at all what we know from the Word of God!  We have a lot to stand on and we have absolute truths.  There may be things that Christians debate or differ on.  But, there are main, unshakable, firm foundation truths that we all stand on.  So, what do you believe in?  What are you willing to stand on and NOT compromise??
I am standing on:
-The Bible is the inerrant Word of God – no errors, sharper than any two edge sword, for instruction, correction and so much more
-I believe in One God – three persons – God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
-Jesus is the Son of God – came to earth by birth of the virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried.  On the third day, He rose again.  He ascended into Heaven.
-Jesus is coming again.
NO Compromise – Just truth…Jesus IS the Way, the Truth, and the Life…no one comes to the Father except through Him.
What do you stand on?
